Tired of the usual urban hustle and bustle, I recently ventured to the gem of the east, the city of Rangpur – a cultural hub that’s nestled in the northern part of Bangladesh. My journey was nothing short of an eye-opener!

Experiencing the city’s four seasons in one journey was not something I was prepared for. For those who prefer mild weather, visit during the dry winter months (November to February). The cool and comfortable climate, accompanied by the spectacular hues of twilight sky, made every sunset in Rangpur an unforgettable spectacle. 
An Unforgettable Journey to Rangpur
To reach this hidden gem, I boarded a flight to Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka. A scenic bus ride from there through sprawling fields and quaint villages took me to the heart of Rangpur, a city that seamlessly blends historical heritage and modern developments.
An Oasis of Comfort in Rangpur
I chose the Grand Palace Hotel as my home away from home, and it certainly surpassed my expectations. Known for its unparalleled Bangladeshi hospitality and comfort, this hotel was nothing short of a luxurious retreat.

Rangpur boasts a rich tapestry of local markets, historical landmarks, and diverse cultures. Each day, I immersed myself in the city’s charm, marvelling at its colourful bazaars, historical sites and cosy neighbourhoods. One of my first stops was the grand Tajhat Palace, a marvel of architecture that encapsulates the city’s rich history. 
Savouring the Cuisine of Rangpur
A food lover’s delight, Rangpur’s cuisine combines traditional Bangladeshi flavours with a hint of colonial influences. A must-try is Kachagolla, a local sweet delicacy that simply melts in your mouth. The best place to sample this and others is at the local markets – a gastronomic adventure that should not be missed! 
Exploring Rangpur: The Guided Way
To ensure a comprehensive understanding of the city, consider going on a city tour. They are plentiful and offer a deep dive into the city, revealing hidden gems and interesting anecdotes about Rangpur’s past.

The local currency is Bangladeshi taka. Modern conveniences such as ATMs are plentiful, and the majority of stores accept credit cards. The cost of living here is quite reasonable, with affordable food and transportation options, making the city budget-friendly.

As the sun sets, Rangpur comes alive with a vibrant nightlife. The locals are warm and welcoming, always eager to share fascinating stories about their city over a cup of chai or plate of local snacks.

Getting around the city is a breeze with rickshaws, tempos, and city buses readily available. The rickshaw rides are particularly charming, offering a unique view of the city’s life, and are highly recommended.

The city offers a unique local shopping experience. Whether you’re looking for local crafts, vibrant textiles, handmade jewellery or traditional Bangladeshi souvenirs, the local markets have it all. It’s a colourful retail paradise that every traveller must explore.
